Hawiian Vacation (Part 2)

***Before you start reading, you should be warned that this is one LONG post.***
After we left the Big Island, we went to Maui for a week. It was amazing. The Big Island was super relaxing and Maui was super fun!
We stayed at the Grand Wailea. This is a view of the hotel and part of one of the fountains.
These are some of the pools. Each pool is connected to one another by a water slide. There's also a big water slide hidden in the rocks. There's a swim up bar, 3 or 4 hot tubs, a lazy river, a pool to practice scuba diving and salt water beach pool. Oh, not to mention that the real beach is right by the pools too. It is every kid's dream, OK adult's dream too!
They had all of these totally crazy statues all over the lobby. I thought they were hysterical.
I love that the Polynesians love fat women!

This was the view looking directly down from our room. Not bad. I love all of the koi ponds.

Another angle from our room. Isn't the hut cool!?!

The first night we got to Maui it was Merrill's official birthday. We went to Mama's Fish House for dinner. DELICIOUS is all I can say!

The next day we went to Iao Valley. The mountain behind us was called "The Needle". This is a picture of Merrill, me, JJ (my brother), Tina (my sister-in-law) & Chance (Tina's brother).

Merrill and I in the river at Iao Valley. A nice Asian kid got in the river to take our picture.

JJ, Tina & I enjoying a sunset while Merrill was out boogy boarding.

One of our favorite things we did in Maui was go zip lining. So much fun. JJ said he would show us all how to do it. This is a video of him "showing" us how. I really do love my brother!

I'm next. Let's just say I did a little bit better, okay a lot better.
Merrill taking a self portrait while zipping along.
I'm coming in for a landing!
Our absolute most fun thing we did in Maui was scuba dive. I didn't think I was going to be able to do it, but we had a great dive instructor that just had me breathe under the water for 5 minutes and then I was fine. We went on 3 dives. We saw 2 sharks, lots of sea turtles, beautiful coral and tons of gorgeous fish. I'm so glad that JJ convinced me to do it. I can't wait to dive again.
Me with a chalk sea urchin (or something like that)
An eel that we saw peeking out of some coral
The crew in the ocean!

On the way back from zip lining, we pulled off to see the sunset. We just loved them there.

Merrill and I on our balcony our last night

One last sunset

At the airport getting ready to head home. So sad, but we were excited to see the kiddos!
We made it back!

It was the first trip Merrill & I have taken together without the kids since William was born & so worth it. I think every couple needs to have a vacation by themselves to reconnect & have time to miss their kids. It not only does wonders for the couple, but also for the family. It was funny though because a lot of the things we did, I kept thinking how much fun the kids would have if they were with us. I can't wait to bring them back someday. When Maddie saw all of the pictures, she started to cry and she said, "Mommy, it's so beautiful there. Can you take me there next time?" That's my Maddie!

What beautiful pictures. I am so glad you had such a good time. I believe every Mom and Dad need to leave their kids for a week once a year. DeVaughn and I did that and it was wonderful to return home and know you had been missed.
Oh the Zip line looked so fun. And the scuba diving. You are so brave. You could enter some of those picture in a contest. Now get busy and plan your next trip for next year! Love, Aunt Colleen

I look up airline prices all the time to go to Maui...not exactly sure why, but it's a fun place to think about going back to.

Looks like you both had SO.MUCH.FUN! I totally agree about getting away. we try to do at least one long weekend a year, but shoot for two. And we are like you...the whole time we are away by ourselves we are loving it, but end up taking our kids to that location the next go around.

Welcome home. P.S. you got a killer tan for winter girlfriend!

Hey Lisa, we had fun seeing William when Chelsea brought the kids up here. We walked into church and he looked up at us and said "I'm here!" It was pretty cute. It was stake conference and he and Andrew and Luke sat together for 2 hours like real troopers. At one point they were all leaning on each other ready to fall asleep. Glad you had such a great trip. We hope to see all of you soon.

Lisa - I think we were there at the SAME TIME! The only difference is that we had kids and our pictures certainly don't look as relaxing!!! :)
