4th of July Weekend & Trip to Elko

Last weekend Merrill and I headed up to Elko for the wedding of one of Merrill's good friend's, Brad. I had no idea how far away Elko was until we got in the car and started going and told Merrill that Cindy told me it was like 8 hours away and he said she was right. I about died. 8 hours in a car on a holiday weekend! Luckily, traffic was a breeze going up, and we had such a great time, we didn't mind sitting in traffic most of the way back.
On the way up, I remembered that our good friend Sandy was in Tahoe for the weekend, so we called her up and met her and her new fiance at a restaurant right on the water for a late dinner. It was so great to catch up with her and give our approval of her fiance. Hee hee. This is Merrill & I in Tahoe. We totally forgot to get a picture with Sandy & Dylan. Sorry Sand!
We spent the night in Reno. That is one place that I have no desire to go back to. Everything smells like cigarette smoke. It was so gross. We even got upgraded to a suite and it still stunk! We got out of there as fast as we could the next morning.
When we got to Elko, we went to the Basque festival that was going on. It looked really fun. We just wished we had had time to eat there, but we had to get to the wedding.
The wedding was at a cute little chapel up in a canyon. It was very quaint & beautiful.
The Bride & Groom. They were both gorgeous. Brad cried through pretty much the whole ceremony. It was so sweet.
Instead of one wedding cake, they had 7 homemade cakes, 15 pies and tons of delicious cookies. They had the BEST shortbread cookies. I had to take some home and I'm trying to get the recipe from the nice lady to made all of the desserts.
While Merrill & I were enjoying ourselves, our kids had a fun weekend too. Jackson stayed with our friends, the Low's. I wasn't sure if he was going to want to come home because he was having so much fun. Here he is on the 4th in a pair of Cutler's shorts.
Taking a nap at the pool.
Maddie stayed with the Savage's. She really didn't want to come home. She had the best time with them. I really have to thank the Low's, Savage's and the Wood's for taking care of our kids while we were gone. It was so sweet of them to offer and make us go. William got to go camping for the weekend with the Wood's. He said it was so much fun to go canoeing, and kayaking. I'm glad that we all got to have such a fun 4th of July weekend, even if we were all apart!

I love Elko! Every summer of my childhood we stayed the night in Elko on our way to Utah. Road trips are the best. Jackson looks so old in the picture; like a little boy instead of a baby. Your having another one just in time!

Wow, your kids are so independent. What fun for them to be spoiled by your good friends. I wish you had some pictures of William camping. Maddie I love your swimming suit. Jackson looks like he was the King. Glad you had a great time driving for 8 hours. The cakes were beautiful. Great idea for dessert.
Love, Aunt Colleen
