I let me 8 year old do WHAT?

Yesterday William left to spend a month at the lake with his grandma Temple and his cousins. He has been so excited to go, and we've been talking about how much fun he's going to have. We've been talking about how he was just going to get on the plane and the flight attendants were going to take care of him and it was a straight flight to Chicago where he was meeting grandma and grandpa. That's how it was SUPPOSED happen.
But, this is what actually happend. We got up early yesterday and drove down to San Bruno to get him to the airport. We dropped Maddie and Jackson off at Josie's and we headed off to SFO. Everything started off great. We got there in plenty of time. Got him checked in, went through security, got him some pizza and fries and went to the gate. Everything was looking good. We played some games while we waited for him to get on the plane and he seemed perfectly happy and excited to go. Then it was time to board the plane. William all of a sudden got very sad and didn't want me to leave him. He wouldn't let go of me. Of course, that made me start crying, but I tried to be as strong as possible. I felt like the worst parent in the world, making my child get on a plane all by himself and fly half way across the country in tears. I must say that the Southwest people were very nice and they said that he was fine by the time he got to his seat.
A couple of hours later I get a call from a 415 number and I'm trying to figure out who it could be when I hear William's voice. I was freaking out, but trying to stay calm. I asked him where he was and he said Omaha. OMAHA!!!! What in the world was my son doing in Omaha!?! He said that there were tornadoes in Chicago and that they couldn't land there. He said that he may have to spend the night there. All I could think of is my baby can't spend the night Omaha. He's only 8. My poor baby. Luckily, the plane finally got to take off a few hours later. The flight attendents were terrific. They got William dinner and took really great care of him. He finally landed in Chicago about 11pm (only 5 hours late). I was so relieved. I know William had our entire family praying for him and he was quite the brave little guy! Now, he can start his fun summer.
William so excited to go!

Oh my goodness! What a brave kid... and Mom!!! I remember being a chld and flying from California to Rhode Island with just my siblings and no parents. I was nervous, but the flight attendants were so kind and gave us tons of popcorn and soda. I am sure William got his share of yummy treats to make up for the tornadoes! (tornados?? neither spellling looks right)

Okay-that is about the worst story I have ever heard and I was sure that you were making it up-but then you never said that you did and I guess it is true. I was really hoping that you made it up! What a story he will tell his children-- and maybe he will even tell his future wife's parents and they will really wonder about how he was raised!! Ha!!You will always add-that's how things are done in San Francisco!!
