A Little More of Alexander's Birth

Now that I've been home for almost a week, I finally have time to sit down and blog about Alexander "Xander" Thomas' birth.  Everything went so smoothly and there were no problems/surprises at all.  I was a little anxious about having him at Kaiser because everyone I know who had a baby there, told me bad stories about the nurses, but I have to say that we had the best experience.  Every single worker there was so friendly and helpful.  Especially my night nurses, which was awesome since Merrill was dead to the world.  In the morning he apoligized, but said that he was just so tired.  Funny, I guess having a c-section is less tiring on the woman than her husband.  Who knew!
5:30am.  Just a few hours before we were shocked when we had a boy and not a girl.

The fabulous Dr. Wagner!

Our videographer, Josie.  Thanks again for driving an hour at the crack of dawn to record Xander's birth.  You rock!

Everyone was amazed at how big Xander was.  They kept talking about it the whole time we were in the hospital.

The proud papa

How sad that he's too big for the bathtub.  Actually, it's quite funny.  He was even holding up his head on his own when he was just a couple of hours old.

Look at those toes!

His head was too big to fit into the normal hospital hats, so they gave him this adorable one.

The proud big brothers and sister.  They all just love him.

The princess with her baby

Welcome to earth Alexander!  We just love having you in our family.  You are so sweet, and I love that you only cry when you need something.  I can't wait to see what you're personality is going to turn out to be.
An update after being home for a few days...We are all doing well.  Alexander has the loudest cry.  It's not a newborn cry at all, but he only cries when he has a dirty diaper or is hugry.  Otherwise, he is quite content.  He's been sleeping for about 3-4 hour stretches a night, which is nice because I've been getting a little sleep too.  The hormone swings haven't been too bad, but I have had a few breakdowns.  Hopefully, they'll mellow out soon.  The kids are loving Xander, especially Maddie.  Jackson is warming up slowly.  He almost held him for the first time tonight, but then changed his mind.  He does kiss his head and he likes to look at his feet.  He's only tried to poke Xander's face once, and he was quite gentle about it.  I'm getting a little nervous about having to do the school routine by myself next week, but I'm sure we'll figure it out fast.  And luckily, it will only be for a week and a half and then it will be Christmas break.
